We understand and respect that for some people, going to the movies may be a challenge or nearly impossible. The darkness of the auditorium, the loud volume, the need to stay seated and the different immersive formats offered can be overwhelming for guests with sensory sensitivities. To make sure that all of our guests have the opportunity to enjoy the experience of seeing a movie in the cinema with their friends and family, Showcase Cinemas offers monthly screenings at select locations that are designed to accommodate guests who may require a different environment.
At our Sensory Sensitive Screenings, we make adjustments that create a comfortable environment for guests who are living with autism or other sensory sensitivities to see the latest releases. Going to the movies is a magical experience and one that should be enjoyed by all.
Screenings take place on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at select locations and tickets are available only at the box office. Screening adjustments include: reduced volume, dimmed lights, no trailers, only 2D, freedom to move around/express emotions, and freedom to bring comfort items (e.g., fidgets, blankets) to better enjoy the movie.
Sensory Sensitive Screening locations include:
Blackstone Valley 14 - City Center 15 - College Point - Island 16: Cinema de Lux - Randolph
Revere - Warwick - Springdale 18
SENSORY SENSITIVE SCREENING FAQs
We want our guests to sit back, relax and enjoy the latest movies in a comfortable setting that meets their needs. The volume will be lowered, the lights will be kept on a dim setting throughout the movie, and there will not be any trailers prior to the start of the show. Guests may get up, move around, and talk during the movie, as well as clap, dance and sing – whatever they need to do to feel comfortable and enjoy the movie-going experience. Fidgets and other sensory-friendly comfort items are also permitted for these screenings.
Participating theaters will host a sensory sensitive screening the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m.
These screenings are designed for guests of any age who experience sensory processing issues, as well as their families and friends. The screenings are open to the public, but guests not in need of a sensory-friendly environment should be aware of the accommodations made during these movie presentations.
